Building a Global Design System for SharkNinja
As SharkNinja expanded rapidly across global markets, their digital ecosystem struggled under the weight of fragmented design practices. Teams across the UK, EU, and US were duplicating work, delivery times were stretching, and costly inefficiencies were slowing launches in new regions. Without a unified system, brand inconsistencies emerged, putting customer trust at risk and making scalability difficult. A structured, future-proof design system was essential to enable global growth.

Establishing the foundations of the brand.
We began by auditing existing assets and running workshops with global stakeholders. From there, we defined the foundational layer: brand logos, colour systems, typography, imagery standards, and accessibility principles. These elements established the DNA of SharkNinja’s digital identity, ensuring every touchpoint aligned with the brand while remaining inclusive and compliant.

Building blocks for consistency and flexibility.
The next layer was the creation of design tokens – the building blocks of consistency. Tokens defined rules for colour, typography, spacing, motion, and interaction states. This allowed developers to apply changes universally with ease, ensuring brand consistency while enabling rapid iteration. By embedding flexibility into the system, we future-proofed SharkNinja’s design standards for evolving digital demands.
Introducing Lantern. A library of reusable, cross-framework assets.
At the core of the system sat a comprehensive component library, Lantern. Each component was designed and coded for cross-framework compatibility (React, Angular, etc.), ensuring scalability across multiple platforms. Components were rigorously documented with clear usage guidelines, do’s and don’ts, and technical specs for designers, developers, and content teams. This reduced duplication, accelerated QA, and created a seamless design-to-development handoff.
THE DIFFERENCE?
27% less design production time
THE DIFFERENCE?
Delivery times reduced by 45–50%
From prototype to global adoption
We phased the rollout to ensure adoption at every level. Prototypes were tested and validated with stakeholders before launching to global teams. Training sessions equipped designers, developers, and marketers with the knowledge to self-serve confidently. We provided short-term governance while empowering SharkNinja’s own ambassador program to drive long-term ownership. Accessibility audits and update cycles ensured the system evolved with brand and technology shifts.
