Digital hub for the Squidgy Fun campaign

The client

Youth Sport Trust (YST) is an independent UK charity devoted to changing young people's lives through sport. It teamed with malt loaf brand Soreen for its Squidgy Fun campaign encouraging young children to get active.

The challenge

Tall was asked to create a multifunctional digital hub for YST’s Soreen Squidgy Fun campaign, which centred around cards suggesting quick, easy exercises or games.

Several of these activities linked to school curriculum themes, with new ranges being released each term. And schools completing the most Squidgy Fun activities won prizes.

The website therefore needed to fulfil a wide-ranging brief, including being:

  • Engaging for both children and adults.
  • Quick and easy for teachers, parents and children to use.
  • Simple for YST to track usage and manage the content.
  • Easy for teachers to track when activity cards had been downloaded.
  • Cheat-proof.

The Squidgy Fun Activity cards offer quick, fun games and challenges that encourage children to exercise which are based around simple workout concepts that require little or no equipment. Several activities are also connected to school curriculum themes to incentivise teachers to do the activities within school with new ranges being released each school term.

How we met the challenge

Working with YST and Soreen we spent a lot of time planning user journeys and developing the design to ensure it captured the interest and attention of both children and adults. Our clean UX design and intuitive interface made it easy to register and then browse and download activity cards.

The site’s back-end development was carefully planned too to allow schools to track when teachers, parents or children downloaded activity cards. It also prevented people getting an unfair advantage in the competition, via multiple downloads for example.

Plus, it allowed the trust to keep track of sign-ups and downloads, as well as managing the content and uploading new activity cards without outside support.

To ensure maximum engagement with the campaign we designed the site to be fully responsive on any device.

What we achieved

The result was a visually appealing website that was easy for everyone involved to use. It fulfilled all the functions required of it and became a strong force in propelling the campaign forwards.
